The core workflow
How a shipment travels from document intake to a filed, audit-ready entry.
How a broker actually uses Commers, screen by screen. The workspace is live at app.commers.ai (invite-only).
The happy path: invoice → cleared entry
1. Invoice arrives → Document inbox (drag-drop PDF, or email packet)
2. AI extracts fields → draft shipment created automatically
3. Broker hits Classify → AI classifies every line + screens every party + computes duty
4. System routes:
all clean + high conf → ai_review (broker glances, approves)
any line <70% → ai_review (hard-blocked for broker co-sign)
screening block hit → hold (broker must clear before anything moves)
5. Broker approves → ready
6. Broker transmits → filed (broker files the ABI message to CBP)
7. CBP releases → released
8. Liquidation → cleared (terminal)
Every step writes to the shipment's activity log — a complete audit trail.
Screen by screen
Dashboard (Shipments)
The broker's home. A live table of every shipment with status, AI confidence ring, duty, ETA, and a screening-block chip on any flagged row. Filter by status / mode. Click a row to open the detail drawer.
Document inbox
Where invoices land. Drag-drop a PDF or image; AI extraction runs and the extracted shipment appears. The "New entry" modal offers four intake paths: upload, email packet, importer PO, or manual.
Shipment detail drawer
The heart of the workspace. Opens over any screen. Tabs:
- Overview — workflow stepper, entry summary, landed-cost card, and (when present) the red denied-party screening panel with every hit + a Dismiss affordance
- Documents — attached commercial docs
- HTS — line-by-line classification with the AI's rationale, confidence, alternatives, and a per-line Edit affordance (broker override → recorded for the feedback loop)
- Duty — landed-cost breakdown (base + Section 301 + fees)
- ACE filing — the entry-summary message the broker transmits (direct ACE transmission to CBP is the one deferred step; today the broker files it)
- Activity — full timeline
For live shipments, the drawer renders a streamlined view: header status + screening panel + editable line items + activity feed.
Tariff intel
Live alerts feed for tariff actions affecting the broker's book. Each alert shows severity, the HTS prefix, the rate change, and which shipments are in scope (click a chip to open that shipment). Filter by All / HTS-specific / UFLPA / PGA; toggle high-severity-only; snooze; expand for detail.
Insights (AI evaluation)
A live, tabbed Insights home — Business / AI evaluation / Autopilot activity. The AI evaluation tab is a real scorecard built from honest production signals: auto-approval rate, override rate by chapter, confidence calibration, screening false-positive rate, drift, and a feed of recent broker corrections, with a Run evaluation action. This is where you see the system getting better over time.
Analytics (Business)
Cross-shipment reporting (duty paid, volumes, etc.) alongside the AI-evaluation scorecard in the tabbed Insights home.
Suppliers / Post-entry audit
Reserved modules — in development. Toggleable per deployment.
Importer portal
The customer-facing read-only view of their shipments — coming soon.
Settings
Org config + module toggles.
The two decisions only a human makes
The product is "autopilot with a broker in the loop." Two things always route to the human:
- Low-confidence classification (below 70%) → the line hard-blocks and the broker co-signs the HTS code. Their correction (if any) trains the model.
- Screening block-band hit → shipment goes to
hold; broker must confirm or dismiss the match before the entry proceeds.
Everything above the 70% review floor can auto-approve. Note the two thresholds are different jobs: 70% is the review floor (below it a line hard-blocks for a human), and 92% is the higher auto-file bar that Autopilot requires before it will even propose a transmission. Auto-approve is never auto-file — transmission to CBP is always a deliberate broker action. As the feedback loop tightens, more clears without a co-sign; that's the product getting better with use.
Direct ACE transmission to CBP is the one deferred step. Until it ships, the broker files the finished, approved entry.
